Country music star Kris Kristofferson has passed away at the age of 88, as verified by HollywoodUnlocked.com. Kristofferson won three Grammy Awards from 13 nominations. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004. He starred in films like “A Star Is Born,” which earned a Golden Globe. Kristofferson was also known as a family man; he had eight children, seven grandchildren, and was married three times.
Kristofferson’s longest relationship lasted 41 years with Lisa Meyers, whom he married in 1983. “I feel nothing but gratitude for being this old and still above ground, living with the people I love,” Kristofferson said in 2013.
“I’ve got eight kids, and a wife that puts up with everything I do, and keeps me out of trouble,” Kristofferson added.
The couple shared a life in Maui, Hawaii, raising five children together and enjoying a quiet lifestyle.
“At the time, I was gun-shy about any relationship heavier than a one-night stand. The road had been my escape, going out and pouring it all into performing,” Kristofferson recalled in 1998. “[But] as my family started getting bigger, it finally beat its way into my consciousness: ‘Wake up, man. This is what really matters.’”
Despite being misdiagnosed with Alzheimer’s in the 2010s, he was later found to have Lyme disease.
“We understand Kris’ deficits in spatial awareness and short-term memory loss and we laugh about it all the time,” Meyers said in 2016. “The more we can get Kris to laugh, the healthier he is. Being on the road, the laughter, the music. It’s great medicine.”
Kristofferson remained active in his career until 2022, with Meyers supporting him through his health challenges.
